This Week's Calendar | Galleries | Music @ the Clubs

Voice of the Dragon, Once Upon a Time in Chinese America (above) is a dynamic music-theater piece featuring martial arts in the Hult's Silva Hall. No one here worked on The Matrix, but the action should still be pretty bad-ass. Jose Manuel Figueroa, holder of many Chinese martial arts grand championship titles, choreographs the hits, kicks, flips, ducks and one-fingered handstands, conceived and set to music by Fred Ho. See Tuesday Calendar.

A psychiatrist attempts to understand a 17-year-old boy who has committed a shocking act of violence. Part detective story, part psychological thriller, Peter Shaffer's Equus, now playing at LCC, is a powerful story of religious obsession and sexual torment. Patrick Torelle directs. Equus contains nudity and mature subject matter, admittance is restricted to 18 and older. It continues this weekend and next. See Friday Calendar.

Hans Christofferson directs Nora at the Lord Leebrick Theatre. It's Ingmar Bergman's re-making of Henrik Ibsen's A Doll's House, a modern theater classic dealing with feminism and the freedom of the individual. Pictured are Susan Tate and Dan Pagoda as Nora Helmer and Torvald Helmer. See Thursday, Feb. 6 Calendar.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, directed by Ang Lee, was named Best Foreign Film in 2000 and won numerous other awards. Here's your chance to see it again as part of the UO Chinese Film Series. Showtime's at 4 pm in 115 Pacific Hall. See Friday Calendar.

From playing under the name of Soft White Underbelly, to Blue Oyster Cult (right), from jamming in dives, to headlining Coliseums, BOC spans from the '60s to the present, a living rock legend. Don't fear the reaper at the McDonald Theatre. See Sunday Calendar.

Cai Emmons reads from her widely acclaimed new novel, His Mother's Son, at 7 pm in the Browsing Room of the UO Knight Library. Emmons's literary, psychological drama with a terrifying crime at its core has proved resonant not only to Eugeneans but also has attracted a statewide readership and a national buzz. See Thursday, Feb. 6 Calendar.

First Friday Artwalk features a free guided tour of downtown arts galleries and visual arts attractions. This week the walk begins at 5:30 pm with Reflections, photography by Mike Catlin at Criterion Gallery. At 5:50 the walk moves to Works From the Estate, work by the late Jan Zach at Karin Clarke Gallery. Then, at 6:10 it's mixed-media fiber by Nancy Pobanz at White Lotus Gallery. Next, at 6:30 the walk features Back by Popular Demand, art by 29 artists who worked together 20 years ago in two artist-run cooperatives, at Jacobs Gallery. The final stop at 6:50 pm features Hoa-Lan Tran's 5th Annual show at Vivace Gallery. Here's one work by Mike Catlin at Criterion Gallery. See Friday Calendar.
