visual art: First Friday Artwalk features a guided tour of downtown art galleries and visual arts attractions. This artwalk, titled "Figures, Plants and Pencils," begins at 5:30 pm at the Jacobs Gallery, for work by Dora Natella and Jonas Rake. At 5:50 pm the walk moves to Plants, Rocks, and Earth, photographs by Gary Tepfer at White Lotus Gallery. At 6:10 pm they are watercolors by Sherri Bails at Criterion Gallery, and at 6:30 pm the walk features pencil works by Fiona McAuliffe at Circle of Hands: Inner Circle Gallery. Here's Amy by Dora Natella. See Friday Calendar.

theater: The Hult Center presents Missoula Children's Theatre's production of Sleeping Beauty, an original "Rock 'n Roll" adaptation of the classic fairy tale. Some 50-60 local students (grades K-12) have been rehearsing, learning lines, songs and choreography for an enjoyable performance at the Hult's Silva Hall. See Saturday Calendar.

gathering: Ah, it's that time again. Time to wake up craving crépes and lusting after lemonade, because until mid-November it's down to the Park Blocks we go, to the Saturday Market, for food, crafts and a show. This opening weekend features music by Chip Cohen, Jam Jamboree, Dromedary, Accordions Anonymous, Miles Ahead and Zambuko Marima. The Kitchen Synchopators (shown) are favorite fixtures at this, the country's oldest weekly open-air crafts festival. See Saturday Calendar.
