This Week's Calendar | Galleries | Music at the Clubs

conference: Sarah James, a Neets'aii Gwich'in Indian and board member of the International Indian Treaty Council, speaks at the Public Interest Environmental Law Conference March 7. The conference spans four days at the UO, featuring keynote speakers such as Ralph Nader, Dave Foreman and Michael Frome; workshops such as "Grassroots Campaigning," and "Protecting Public Land and Water;" and panels such as "Turning Local Politicians into Allies" and "Ethics in Environmental Litigation." More than 125 events are scheduled, and more than 4,000 participants from more than 50 countries are expected. See Thursday, March 7 Calendar.

music: The Eugene Opera transports Oregonians for two nights into the steamy South with Susannah, an opera by Carlisle Floyd at the Hult Center. Repressed Tennessee townsfolk catch the uncommonly beautiful Susannah bathing nude in a creek. Some of them want to get rid of her and others want to & get to know her better. It's a tale of facing life's harsh realities, as told in the town of New Hope. Meagan Miller plays Susannah. See Friday Calendar.

music: Bill Blough and Jeff Simon are the rhythm section for George Thorogood and the Destroyers. Without their heavy strums and raw beats you'd never have cruised your Trans-Am down the Gut with "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer," "I Drink Alone," and "Who Do You Love" blaring out your t-top. Oh wait, that was the bubble window on your Pacer. Whatever your taste, for great classic rock or for picking fights, this show at the McDonald's your baby. See Thursday, March 14 Calendar.
