visual art: First Friday Artwalk is a monthly walking tour of downtown art galleries. This month's walk, led by Douglas Beauchamp, begins at the Robert Canaga Gallery for the opening of works by Dan Powell and Colleen Choquette. The walk continues to the Criterion Gallery, Temporarily Maude, Circle of Hands Inner Circle Gallery and finally to Photozone for works by Cliff Minks. Here's Minks' Sage. See Friday Calendar and Art in the Galleries.

music: Led by fiddler Kelly Thibodeaux of Baton Rouge, La., Etouffee combines red hot fiddle, shufflin' rhythm and blues and kickin' Southern rock to create a sound known as Swamp Rock. Thibodeaux's been called "a voodoo priest -- leading the dancers onto the floor and keeping them there until they're panting and sweaty." They play Sam Bond's Garage. See Friday Calendar.

film: The Impact! Theatre Family Fun Film Festival is here! How about showing your kids The Wizard of Oz on the big screen Jan. 6? Enough of ogre farts and talking donkeys. This Film Festival's another reason we're psyched the McDonald is back in business. Upcoming shows include Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Yellow Submarine and A Night at the Opera. See Sunday Calendar.
