film: Spencer Tracy and Sylvia Sidney are lovers in Fritz Lang's 1936 Fury, which is one of the films in town this weekend as part of Eugene Weekly's 2001 Film Festival, sponsored by the Wayne Morse Chair for Law and Politics at the UO. The festival kicks off its exploration of race, class and the criminal justice system Friday night, Oct. 5 at the Bijou Arts Cinema. The festival runs through Sunday, Oct. 7 with two performances each of four feature films Fury, Dead Man Walking, La Ciudad (The City) and Our Song and one documentary film, The Thin Blue Line. See Friday, Saturday and Sunday Calendar.

visual arts: When evening comes at the end of this work week, First Friday Artwalk rolls into gear with stops at Scan Design, the Jacobs Gallery, Vivace Gallery, Bambini and a final stop featuring a block party at the Salon des Refusés in the Heron Building, where Eugene's own Broadway, an acrylic by Martin Sage, can be seen through Oct. 5. See Friday Calendar.

music: Bob Dylan's sophisticated folk classics can be found on 43 albums, and his latest, Love and Theft, delves into the musical textures Dylan experienced as a youth. Dylan says, "All the songs are variations on the 12-bar theme and blues-based melodies. The music here is an electronic grid, the lyrics being a sub-structure that holds it all together." Dylan plays at the Gill Coliseum. See Sunday, Corvallis Events.
