arts:There's nothing like checking out the up and coming talent for staying on the edge of the art scene. This month's First Friday Art Walk introduces us to artists coming out of UO's Master of Fine Arts program. Works from the MFA/01 show will be showing at the Jacobs Gallery, Robert Canaga Gallery and Provenance. Also on the walk, Passionflower hosts its sixth annual basket show, Judy Ness gives a weaving demonstration at Kudos, and Broadway Market is hosting a wine tasting. Don't forget to start the tour with music by the UO Vocal Jazz Ensemble at the Jacobs. See Friday Calendar. festival:Fiesta Latina turns 10 this year and the annual Cinco de Mayo celebration at Washington Jefferson Park promises to be hotter than ever. Sonora Dinamita (pictured), the kings and queens of Columbia's cumbia music scene, headline the weekend. Local Brazilian band Sun Bossa, Latino funk band Rubberneck and salsa experts Latin Expression all perform. Some of Eugene's best dance couples will compete in the salsa dance contest and a traditional Mariachi Mass is on Sunday. See Friday Calendar. music:Before heading into the studio this summer to record a new album, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers kick off a 15-date tour at Gill Coliseum in Corvallis. Since the October 2000 release of its Anthology: Through the Years album, the band has been called a "national treasure" and "the best rock and roll band on the planet" by critics. The band's songs and distinctive sound, created by songwriter and lead singer Petty, are "about loners and losers who are hanging onto their own version of the American Dream." The Wallflowers open.
