art:This month's First Friday Art Walk features some unusual treats. Get a sneak peek at the findings and recommendations of the Greater Downtown Visioning Project at the City of Eugene's "Virtual Gallery." The exhibit includes graphics from the project as well as works from a recent American Institute of Architects design charette that focused on downtown. You'll want to see these ideas as there will be opportunities for public input later in the month. (Watch the EW calendar for details.) Also on the Art Walk is a special celebration at Cafe Paradiso featuring a community arts display with information on a variety of Lane County arts projects and programs. Encore Theatre makes a special appearance before the tour proceeds. Featured galleries this month are Circle of Hands, ScanDesign, Provenance (painting by Regina Loch-Elvert is pictured here) and Harlequin Beads and Jewelry. See Friday Calendar. presentation:UO's Wayne Morse Center For law and Politics begins a series on "Labor in a Global Economy" next week. Labor historian Nelson Lichtenstein, author of The Most Dangerous Man in Detroit: Walter Reuther and the Fate of American Labor, discusses "The Lost World of Workplace Justice." Lichtenstein's lecture coincides with the opening reception for Boss of the Waterfront: Wayne Morse and Labor Arbitration, an exhibition focusing on Morse's work as a labor arbitrator, at the Knight Library, UO. See Monday Calendar. music:After a five-year hiatus, still with original members, The Jeff Healey Band is touring its latest release, Get Me Some. One of Canada's most celebrated and accomplished musicians, Healey was blinded by eye cancer at the age of 1. At 3, he picked up his first guitar and patented his trademark technique of playing the instrument flat on his lap. After more than a decade of touring and performing with some of the greats like Ringo Starr, Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt and others, Healey has become legendary himself. The band performs with The Shannon Fayth Band at Sheldon High School next week. See Monday Calendar. |
