music:
Eugene's favorite band, according to EW's Best of Eugene poll, is ready to set the record straight with a real millennium party. The Sugar Beets play psychedelic bluegrass with a backdrop of dancers, jugglers, a psychedelic light show and a balloon drop at midnight. Whether you believe that the millennium is 2000, 2001 or just whatever lets you party like it's Y2K again this year, the WOW Hall has an evening for you. The band plans to merge with key points on the planet via cell phone as the new millennium arrives. Is it a carnival, a rave or a pagan ritual? It's whatever your fantasy celebration is. See Dec. 31 Calendar.

music:
Once Santa has departed, the pie has been devoured and all the gifts unwrapped, head over to the Wild Duck for a Christmas night celebration with the Merry Poppin' Daddies. Eugene's own Daddies have enough holiday spirit to share. If you can't sneak away on Christmas, catch the Daddies in Portland on New Year's Eve. See Dec. 25 and On the Road Calendar.

music:
If you've been fantasizing all week about a Prince Charming who will rescue you from your oppressive -- although much-loved -- family, the Eugene Opera's Cinderella will make you very happy. Replete with the same ugly stepsisters and charming prince from the original story, Rossini's La Cenerentola provides several new twists to the familiar tale, giving it one of the happiest endings in history. After the Opera performance, head over to the Downtown Athletic Club for a buffet dinner, midnight toast and live music at the Eugene Opera's annual New Year's Eve benefit. See Dec. 31 Calendar.
