Kid's Calendar music:Where could you find UO women's basketball coach Jody Runge, Emmy Award-winning writer of the "Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour" Mason Williams (pictured) and the Eugene Symphony sharing the same stage? This Friday night at the Hult. It's the annual Holiday Pops with Mason Williams show. This year's show features performances by the aforementioned as well as Eugene guitar legend Don Latarski, jazz/blues diva Marilyn Keller, the Eugene Vocal Arts Ensemble, a handful of local actors, and the Oregon Children's Choir. You won't want to miss this year's Pops. Besides featuring a rousing "duck lips" solo by Runge, it's rumored that this year's Pops may be the last. Williams is ready to move on. We'll just see if Eugene lets him. See Friday Calendar. music:From helping shape folk revivals in the 1960s and again in the '80s and '90s, Tom Rush's impact on the American music scene has been profound. Garth Brooks has credited Rush as one of his top five musical influences and James Taylor has said, "Tom was not only one of my early heroes, but also one of my main influences." Besides inspiring young musicians, Rush has also championed numerous emerging artists. His early recordings introduced the world to Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne and James Taylor. Rush's latest release, The Very Best of Tom Rush: No Regrets, includes 17 tracks written from 1962 to the present. Rush stops in at North Eugene High this weekend. See Saturday Calendar. benefit:Eugene is quite the literary town. We have many local authors, musicians and artists and many of those talented people will be at the Eugene Library's Authors and Artists Fair – 33 authors, 11 performing musicians and 10 artists to be exact. Ken Kesey will read a story he has written for the holiday season. Other local authors making an appearance include Jan Eliot, Kate Wilhelm, Diana Deverell (pictured) and William Sullivan. The library itself will be decked out for the event. All three floors will be lined with tables where the public can meet the authors, buy autographed books, music and artwork. Booths will also offer wine tasting, desserts and coffee. The event is a fund-raiser for the Eugene Library Foundation. See Saturday Calendar. |
